Congresswoman Norma J. Torres (CA-35) today celebrated as her bill, the G.I Veterans Education Empowerment Act (GIVE Act) was signed into law by President Biden as part of a larger legislative package called the Training in High-Demand Roles to Improve Veteran Employment Act (THRIVE Act).

Torres' bill adds new categories and information to the G.I. Comparison Tool, an online resource designed to help service members make decisions about their G.I. benefits and explore education opportunities.

The GIVE Act would expand the tool by allowing veterans to search for:

Minority-serving institutions such as Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions (AANAPIs), and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs);
Religious-affiliated schools; and
Gender-specific institutions.
Congresswoman Torres released the following statement:

"With the stroke of a pen, President Biden helped deliver more academic opportunities for deserving veterans across the country today," Rep. Norma J. Torres said. "The men and women in uniform who sacrifice so much for this country deserve every opportunity to make the most of their benefits. I'm proud that my bill, the GIVE Act, is a part of this package. By helping veterans find the academic path that's right for them, the GIVE Act will ensure every service member receives the education they need and deserve."
